Police said that earlier this month they responded to the same residence, where a man was distraught over marital issues.
New York State Police said James Layland, 48, entered a house at 11 Glen Morris Ave. and shot and killed his wife, Mary Layland, 47. He then shot and killed himself.
MOUNT MORRIS — A couple was found dead Monday in a home on one of this Livingston County village's quietest streets, and police confirmed late Monday night that it was a murder-suicide.
Police responded to a call about a person screaming at Mary Layland's residence about 12:30 p.m. Monday and arrived to find her mother there, said Capt. Scott Crosier of the New York State Police.
The mother had been attempting to contact her daughter. After repeated attempts failed, she went over to the house, where she discovered the bodies, he said.
