PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh police were called to an address in the 1400 block of Orangewood Road in Beechview only a half hour into the new year.
Police were called by a woman who said her son, 38-year-old William Murray, was beating his girlfriend, Lillainya Rachko, with a baseball bat.
When they arrived, they found Rachko, 29, with severe head injuries from being beaten with the bat lying on the basement floor. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 58-year-old woman who called authorities said her son also cut himself with a kitchen knife before fleeing to his Baldwin home.
Murray’s family members told officials that he owned a few guns, which prompted police to call in Pittsburgh SWAT to Murray’s home on Camarta Drive.
SWAT units forced entry into the home to find Murray slumped over inside his car.
Officials said Murray was pronounced dead on arrival from another self inflicted cut.
The case is still under investigation.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner is currently examining the crime scene.
