Press Release from Bryan Gregory, A retired North Carolina Trooper

"Heather Thompson may be celebrating her last Mother's Day- if she doesn't receive the help and support that she needs from law enforcement, South and North Carolina Department of Corrections, Public Officials & Domestic Violence Organizations who are paid to serve and protect her"
Of all except her, I probably know her story better than anyone else. I’m a part of it. I’ve written it. But this woman has had to live it.
Although May 29 is not that far away and she has mountains to climb before then, she’s taking time this weekend just as we are, to be with her family & Mother. This may be her last one, so as we celebrate this day, let us remember Heather.
In just a matter of days, her ex-husband and self-described killer will be out of prison. He may be under supervision for awhile, but without GPS monitoring, he’ll be able to go and do as he pleases. There’s no reason we’ve found to believe otherwise … If he carries out the continuous threats that he’s made to her, he’ll kill her.
She’s pounded on all the desks and doors. She’s been run around in circles by all domestic violence organizations and more. When confronted, they’ll tell you they’re doing all that they can and her needs are being met. But the reality is … They’re filling their pockets with our money and doing nothing.
We’ve waited until this late hour assuming they’d act … They have not. All her bills are overdue and basic services are threatened to be cut off. If needed, she has places to flee but no back-up money to even get her and her family there. And what if their cell phones are cut off? It infuriates me that I must beg you now to take up their slack.
Her pretty smile is fading. Heather feels like she’s drowning now with not a life jacket in sight. Although she’s not asked me to do this, I must.

Here’s her mailing address…
Heather Thompson
PO Box 697
Indian Trail, NC 28079

I don’t care if you can only scrape up five dollars. Send it to her and she’ll joyfully take it. Because she’s had so much practice, she’s an expert now … She can turn little’s into a whole lot. Your prayers are always welcomed … But if we’re gonna expect God’s help, I’m sure he’d be much more willing once we’ve stepped up to the plate.
If you’ve not yet read her story, check it out at www.the-babysitter.org

And if you can think of anyone else who might care … Feel free to copy & paste and spread this message everywhere.

Death of Garland father and son officially ruled a murder-suicide

06:02 PM CDT on Tuesday, May 12, 2009

By JASON TRAHAN / The Dallas Morning News

A 37-year-old man who shot his 10-year-old son in a picnic area at a Garland park took his own life, the Dallas County medical examiner's office has ruled.

A man walking his dog found the bodies of Matthew Jason Knapp and his son, Brody, just after 7 a.m. Friday at the park near Firewheel Golf Course. A pistol was found on the father’s body. The medical examiner previously ruled Brody’s death a homicide, and this week said Knapp committed suicide.

The pair had been to church in Garland that evening, but did not return home. Knapp's wife reported them missing a few hours before they were found in the park, which is about four miles from their Sachse home.

Garland police spokesman Joe Harn said Tuesday that detectives still do not have a motive.

"We may never know why this happened," Harn said. "Our investigators are continuing to look for information."

Teen killed by dad was carrying his baby

A Bronx man who strangled his pregnant 14-year-old daughter and threw her naked body in a boiler last year was also the father of her unborn child, according to prosecutors.

Miguel Matias, 36, appeared in Bronx Supreme Court Tuesday as prosecutors consolidated the two indictments against him - an earlier one for his daughter's murder on Feb. 16, 2008, and the newest one for second-degree rape and incest.

DNA taken from Matias matches a sample taken from the fetus carried by his daughter, Anna, said Steven Reed, spokesman for Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson.

Matias confessed to the murder, saying he was driven to strangle Anna with an electrical cord when he caught her writing "sex things" on her computer, police said.

Matias has been declared fit to stand trial but has a history of mental illness and has attempted suicide several times, according to his lawyer Roy Schwartz.

The new indictment says Matias raped his daughter between Nov. 15 and Nov. 30, 2007, which means Anna was 2-1/2 to three months pregnant when she was murdered.

Matias' family had previously said Anna was pregnant with a boyfriend's baby.

Matias is scheduled to appear in court again on June 30 and lawyers for both sides said a plea agreement is likely.

Matias faced 25 years to life in prison for the murder charge. He now faces up to an additional seven years in prison for the rape charge.

Police say University of Georgia professor George Zinkhan shot and killed himself but left no suicide note. Cadaver dogs found Zinkhan's body in the woods, two weeks after he shot and killed three people in Athens, Ga.

ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia professor who shot three people outside a community theater targeted his wife's male friend first, then turned the gun on her and a third person, authorities said Tuesday as they released new details of the killings.

The two-week international manhunt for marketing professor George Zinkhan, 57, ended Saturday when cadaver dogs found his body in a shallow grave he'd dug for himself in the north Georgia woods, not far from his home.

Authorities said Tuesday that he shot himself in the head but did not leave a suicide note.

Police have not released a motive in the April 25 killings, but Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Jim Fullington said Zinkhan was having "marital difficulties" and receiving marriage counseling.

Police say he killed his wife, Marie Bruce, 47; Clemson University economist Tom Tanner, 40; and Ben Teague, 63. All were members of a local theater group gathered that day for a reunion at the Athens Community Theater, a short distance from the University of Georgia campus, where Zinkhan taught.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: Alabama | Georgia | Athens | Amsterdam | Federal Bureau of Investigation | Clarke County | Jim Fullington

Fullington said Zinkhan targeted Tanner first, though he would not say why. Teague was "at the wrong place, at the wrong time," Fullington said.

Authorities believe Zinkhan left his two young children in the car during the shootings. He was last seen dropping them off at a neighbor's house soon after, saying there was an emergency.

Bulletins were issued nationwide and authorities kept watch on airports in case Zinkhan tried to flee to Amsterdam, where he has taught part time at a university since 2007.

Nearly a week after the shootings, police found his passport and his wrecked Jeep in a ravine in a wooded area near his house on the outskirts of Athens, a college town 70 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers scoured the area for days, but it wasn't until Saturday that a team of cadaver dogs found his body hidden in a small dug-out area about 15 inches deep.

"It was apparent he had taken significant steps to make sure his body wasn't located," said Major Mark Sizemore of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Authorities said Zinkhan used a shovel to carve a hole and then dumped dirt and debris on himself before shooting himself in the head with a handgun. A gray sports bag with his clothes and another gun were found at his side.

His body had been there five to 14 days. In his abandoned Jeep, authorities found Zinkhan's cellphone, laptop, wallet and a map to the home of Barbara Carroll, a fellow University of Georgia professor. Sizemore said the map had been printed the day before the shooting.

Carroll told her colleagues in an e-mail obtained by The Red & Black, the UGA student newspaper, that she believes Zinkhan planned to kill her, too.

Zinkhan had been a professor in the university's Terry College of Business and had no disciplinary problems, school officials said. He had taught at UGA since the 1990s and was fired after the shootings.

He'd shown signs that he may have been looking to leave Athens. In March, he interviewed for a position in the University of Alabama's business school but was not offered the job, school spokeswoman Cathy Andreen said.

Authorities said many of the mysteries surrounding the shooting may never be solved.

"There are some questions that we will never know the answer to," Sizemore said.

False Allegations are a Small Factor in The Family Courts

False Allegations are a small factor in the Family Courts

Even one of the strongest family violence critics admitted that in a majority of child abuse cases had substance in it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 12, 2009 – DR Richard A Gardner, the man who coined the term Parent Alienation Syndrome stated, “The vast majority ("probably over 95%") of all sex abuse allegations are valid”.  Gardner, R.A. (1991). Sex Abuse Hysteria: Salem Witch Trials Revisited . Cresskill, NJ: Creative Therapeutics (pp. 7, 140).
Like the recent report about St John’s Ambulances “Hush Money for sex abuse victims” fathers rights will have us all believe that most mothers and children are liars when it comes to allegations in the Family Court.

This was not true for Cassandra Hasanovic who died at the hands of her ex partner.  The Family Court ignored her pleas and ordered her to return resulting in her death.  The Founder of the Anonymums Collective Stated, ”The falsely accused are among the privileged in the family courts, they can obtain costs and are not required to provide much evidence as the court rules upon the level of substantiation”.

In the National Plan to reduce Violence against Women and Their Children it was stated, “The Family Law Amendment (Shared Parental Responsibility) Act 2006, however, represents a potential obstruction to a just and integrated response to family violence in Australia”.
Members of Anonymums not only agree to this statement, they understand the grave consequences that surround this lucrative bill.

Even the Prime Minister said, “As a nation, the time has well and truly come to have a national conversation – a public national conversation, not a private one – about how it could still be the case that in 2008 so many Australian women could have experienced violence from their partner…
It is my gender – it is our gender – Australian men – that are responsible.

And so the question is: what are we going to do about it?
…There are no circumstances in which the threat of violence against women is acceptable. There are no circumstances in which the thought of violence against women is acceptable.
That on violence against women, we have simple, clear policy in two words: zero tolerance.”
“It’s a move in the right direction and will save the government compensation money in the long run” a spokesperson for Anonymums stated.

The Founder of Anonymums added, “When Diana Bryant said “Family Violence is the Core Business of the Family Court”, many victims have begun to wonder why such force was imposed upon them in a system that is meant to protect them from such things.  Take “Family Violence” and “Core Business” out of this phrase and it becomes clear what she meant when she said this.  Family Violence Victims held captive by the court and perpetrator means that the protective parent will guarantee a great deal of money.  The message becomes clear, “To protect your children, save your life – We will need the children’s home, life savings and anything else you have”.   Either way, the victim is cornered by a bunch of legal clauses and unless they can produce more than what is required for a homicide, the child or the intimate partner violence victim is at the abusers mercy”.

The Australian Human Rights Commission made the Following Statement about False Allegations,
“HREOC is well aware of the concerns of some individuals and community organizations that false allegations of family violence are regularly made.  For example, i n its submission to a review of legislation regarding protection orders, the Lone Fathers’ Association states that protection orders “are employed as a routine separation procedure” by women to force their husbands out of their homes, without any violence having occurred, “and/or as a vindictive retaliatory act”.

HREOC would caution against accepting this contention uncritically. There is no doubt that Family Court proceedings often are accompanied by allegations of domestic violence and the use of protection orders. However, this may reflect the fact that domestic violence often escalates when couples separate. Australian data demonstrate that women are as likely to experience violence by previous partners as by current partners and that it is the time around and after separation which is most dangerous for women.”
This was in 2005.   It’s been four years since this was noted and many lives at stake, some are embedded upon gravestones, a remembrance of a time when children were once again seen and not heard.

Drew Peterson, Welcome to the Crowbar Hotel

·

Drew Peterson, Welcome to the Crowbar Hotel

We’ve had your room waiting…

(CNN) — Drew Peterson, the former police sergeant who authorities call the prime suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, has been indicted on murder charges related to his third wife, Kathleen Savio, the Illinois state attorney’s office said.

Drew Peterson was arrested Thursday on murder charges relating to his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Drew Peterson was arrested Thursday on murder charges relating to his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

Illinois State Police said Peterson was taken into custody about 5:30 p.m. Thursday after a traffic stop near his home.

Police had staked out his home all day, said police Capt. Carl Dobrich, but waited for Peterson to leave to arrest him out of concern for his three children, who were inside the house.

Peterson, through his attorney, denied any wrongdoing in either case.

Wills County State’s Attorney James Glasgow said he believes the case is strong and said Peterson is being held on $20 million bond.

“This is an extremely grave and serious matter and it is reflected in the bond,” Glasgow said.

Peterson’s attorney Joel Brodsky told CNN’s Larry King he believed the bond was excessive and would seek a more “reasonable” bond, noting it was the most expensive bond he’d seen in 10 years. Video Watch Peterson’s attorney address his client’s arrest »

Charles B. Pelkie, spokesman for the state’s attorney in Will County, Illinois, said a grand jury indicted Peterson in the murder of Savio, whose death had been ruled an accidental drowning.

Brodsky said in a written statement that prosecutors won’t be able to prove their case because “he didn’t do it.”

“There is no evidence that links Drew Peterson to the death of Kathleen Savio or anyone else for that matter,” Brodsky said. “Drew did not harm Kathleen; he has said so from Day One. We’re obviously disappointed a grand jury indicted him. But an indictment does not mean guilt.”

Pelkie said the grand jury continues to meet and is studying the possibility of charges in Stacy Peterson’s disappearance. Video Watch family members react to the arrest »

After Stacy Peterson went missing in October 2007, media frenzy and police scrutiny on Peterson revealed Savio had died mysteriously a few years earlier during a nasty divorce.

Savio died just before the division of the marital assets was finalized, making Drew Peterson the sole beneficiary.

Savio was found in the dry bathtub of her home. At the time, the death was ruled an accidental drowning. But her family continued to insist that Savio died as a result of foul play.

The investigation into Stacy Peterson’s disappearance brought renewed interest in Savio’s death. Authorities exhumed Savio’s body, further tests were conducted, and her death has now been ruled a “homicide staged to look like an accident.”

Brodsky told King he believes the case has always been about circumstantial evidence and that he will bring a pathologist to trial who will say Savio died from an accidental drowning.

Don’t Miss

“I think the jury’s going to see that, in fact, this always has been an accidental death and still is an accidental death,” Brodsky told King.

Kathleen Savio’s brother, Nick, told CNN affiliate WLS-TV he received a call from his sister saying Peterson had been arrested. Video Watch police arrest Peterson »

“The state police had been telling us the day was coming,” he told WLS-TV. “We kept hearing it for about eight months. I’m almost in tears here. It’s been so hard for our family.”

“Hopefully, we’ll get the justice we’ve always been waiting for.”

Martin Glink, attorney for the Savio family, said they were hopeful the grand jury felt there was enough evidence to charge Peterson.

“We’re very happy that the wheels of justice have continued to move and they are pointing in his direction,” Glink told WLS-TV.

The news was also bittersweet for Stacy Peterson’s family, who continue to wait for news about her disappearance.

“We have anticipated this coming. We have dreamed about it. We have been patient over it,” Pam Bosco, spokesperson for Stacy Peterson’s family told WLS-TV. “Now that it’s here, it’s almost a little bit calm. We’re waiting for the storm to calm now. The calm before the storm.”

Bosco said while she had not heard about any charges relating to Stacy Peterson’s death, she was hopeful those charges would follow.

“We always said from the very beginning that Kathleen and Stacy had one thing in common — and that was Drew Peterson,” she said. “So, hopefully, we’ll have news soon about Stacy, too.”

Ernie Raines is also relieved about the arrest. His daughter, Christina Raines, is dating Peterson and was living with him before his arrest. Ernie Raines told CNN’s Anderson Cooper he was with his daughter and Peterson as recently as last week, when they talked about going to Las Vegas, Nevada, and getting married.

Thursday night he spoke with his daughter after the arrest.

“My daughter was terrified, very emotional, upset,” Ernie Raines said. “And I tried to tell her from the beginning that this was going to happen, be prepared.”

Ernie Raines said more than anything, when he heard about the arrest, he was relieved.

“I’m glad justice finally came — before he hurt my daughter,” he said.

Police put Peterson’s three minor children in the custody of the state’s children and family service department. His adult son was contacted, at Peterson’s request, to take them, according to Capt. Dobrich.

Dobrich said Peterson cooperated with police during his arrest.
